10. What is heaven like?

The presenter stands on the sun-kissed beach. They are tanned, relaxed and talking to the camera imparting in formation about the tropical island they are standing upon. Sitting in your room, thousands of miles away you dream and drool about being on that beach. If only life was a beach! If only we could be there. If only……

Through television we see the pictures and imagine what it must be like to be there. The one thing that we do know is that we want to go!

What is heaven like?

Unlike the holiday programmes we don’t have pictures of the place. Not visual ones anyway. We do however have an ideal presenter who can share their experience of the place and put pictures in our mind.

Jesus came from heaven, lived on earth and then returned to heaven. He is highly qualified to tell us what the place is like. It is where His Father is and where He belongs. I know the word “home” may conjure up different thoughts in your mind but home is a place where we SHOULD feel safe, warm, wanted, accepted, loved and secure. A place where we belong.

Heaven is not going to be dull! Jesus talked a lot about “celebrations”, “parties” and “feasts” to describe what it is going to be like in heaven. However wonderful the world we live in is, it is not our home. There is a deep longing inside each one of us for something that is going to last and a place where we are totally at home and loved.

Life may not be a beach, but heaven is going to be paradise.
